Understanding Hex Color Codes
A hex color code is a six-digit code (like #FF5733) that represents a colour using the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) model. The first two digits control red, the middle two control green, and the last two control blue — each pair ranges from 00 (none of that colour) to FF (full intensity). This format is used everywhere in web design, from CSS stylesheets to design tools like Figma and Photoshop.
This generator picks a random combination of all three colour channels, giving you a fresh hex code each time — useful for quickly exploring colour ideas for a website, poster, presentation slide or design project without having to pick values manually.
How It Works
1. Generate
Click "Generate Color" to get a random hex code along with a live colour preview in the background.
2. Copy
Use "Copy Code" to copy the hex value to your clipboard, ready to paste into CSS, design software or a document.
3. Reuse
Keep generating until you find a shade that fits your design — each code is a valid CSS/HTML colour value you can use immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between hex and RGB notation?
Both describe the same colour. Hex (#FF5733) is base-16 notation; RGB (rgb(255, 87, 51)) is the same three channel values written in base-10. Either works in modern CSS.
Why does my design look different across screens?
Screen colour calibration, brightness settings and colour profiles vary by device, so the same hex code can look slightly different on different monitors or phones.
