How This Location Tool Works

This tool uses the Geolocation API built into your web browser to read your device's current latitude and longitude — the same underlying technology that powers map apps, weather apps and ride-hailing apps. Your browser asks your explicit permission before sharing location, and the coordinates are read directly on your device; this page does not store, log or transmit your location anywhere.

Latitude measures how far north or south you are from the equator (0°), while longitude measures how far east or west you are from the Prime Meridian running through Greenwich, UK. Together, these two numbers pinpoint any location on Earth.

How It Works

1. Click "Get Location"

Your browser will show a permission prompt asking whether this site can access your device's location.

2. Allow access

Once you approve, your device's GPS, Wi-Fi or network-based positioning is used to estimate your coordinates.

3. Read the result

Your latitude and longitude appear instantly, which you can use for mapping, sharing a precise location, or geotagging.

Tip: Location accuracy depends on your device — a phone with GPS enabled outdoors will typically be far more precise than a desktop computer relying only on Wi-Fi/IP-based positioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my location data stored anywhere?

No. The coordinates are read by your browser and displayed directly on this page; nothing is saved to a server or database.

Why does it say "unable to fetch location"?

This usually means location permission was denied in your browser settings, or your device's location services are turned off at the operating-system level.
